Gentle Giant Moves Boston With Bicycles

Gentle Giant Moving Company in Boston is now offering moving services using specialty cargo-carrier bicycles. It may sound crazy, but it actually makes sense for many urban movers. The bicycles allow Boston residents relocating within the city to move stress free without the use of large, diesel consuming trucks that require buying expensive, city-issued parking permits.

The bicycles, and trailers, are purpose-built from heavy-duty aluminum to carry up to 300 pounds. The ‘Bike Moves’ service is for customers in the Boston metro area that need to move small loads in a dense urban environment. The savings on diesel fuel and parking permits means that bicycle moves can be a more affordable option too.

The recent press release (link below) tells how the idea came to be: “Gentle Giant’s Bike Moves service began when a local cycling enthusiast started helping people move furniture and boxes around town with his bicycle tractor-trailer rig to earn some extra cash. After some initial success, the entrepreneurial cyclist decided to bring the idea to a company that he felt had the resources and progressive culture needed to make bicycle-based moving a large scale reality: 31 year old, Boston-based Gentle Giant Moving Company. The clean, frugal service was outlined to Gentle Giant Founder and CEO Larry O’Toole, who loved the idea. “This initiative was a perfect fit for Gentle Giant,” O’Toole explained. “Our local customers now have an environmentally friendly option which fits in perfectly with Gentle Giant’s athletics and fitness focused company culture.””

What a great idea! I have a small apartment in Boston and will definitely be giving Gentle Giant a call when I move.
